University of Bath URL Shortener

University of Bath URL Shortener

The Project

The task was to design and build a web-app to replace the University of Bath's existing URL shortening service to enable long web addresses to be compressed, making them easier to share and type.

The web-app redirects users who enter a short URL's alias into their web browser's address bar to the final webpage.

Administrators can create, manage and update these aliases through an online interface as well as being able to track the usage of these links to ensure effective campaign management.

The Client

The University of Bath is a leading university located in the city of Bath. The digital marketing and communications department is responsible for maintaining the universities online presence.

The digital marketing and communications department required an updated way to create and manage short URLs.

I spent a week working with the team to develop the final product which was developed using the Padrino framework for Ruby.
